Okay, so I was on a ROLL. I had all my students in a row. They're doing their work. They're paying attention. They're accepting the consequences of their behavior. I rock because they understand the rhythm of French class.
But finals week is FREAKING ME OUT. I'm teaching one last book lesson to my level ones, and I just can't seem to stretch it out just perfectly in the planning stages. I'm worried that we'll either not get it done or we'll finish in no time and have nothing to do aside from finals review for 5 days ... and that's excessive. My other levels are okay, as far as I know. I just have to WRITE their finals. Dangit. I would normally just use the previous French teacher's finals, but I haven't been teaching the same as her AT ALL and it wouldn't be fair to the students if I threw that at them.
And then, I get a status in my attendance program that I'm getting a new advanced student. From Champaign ... but also from THE REPUBLIC of the CONGO. Yep, French-speaking country. So, she's going to just be bored out of her mind in my class (likely) and/or totally make fun of every mistake that I make. Based on her previous grades, she's not been buckling down so great. I already have a foreign exchange student in that class, so it will make for a nice mix of backgrounds, to say the least.
**UPDATE** The lead counseling person actually was mis-informed. The student's parents are from the congo republic, and the student lived in FRANCE. So, even better. I don't think I'll talk about this any more in my blog, though, because it might get too detailed. But yeah, I think I'm going to have to have some conversations with some people.
But I'm not going to let on that I'm freaking out. Nope. Smooth sailing, as far as they're concerned.
